Description:  This course introduces students to the principles of organic farming, including historical perspectives and certification standards. Topics include maintaining soil fertility, crop choices, cover crops, and holistic and integrated pest management, as applied to farming systems, vegetable systems and agroforestry.

Instructor:  Dr. Charles Francis

Delivery:  The class will meet on days and times to be announced.  Academic students are expected to:  attend lectures; obtain materials from Blackboard; participate in at least five chat room sessions and information exchanges; complete weekly written reports summarizing and critiquing lectures and materials; and complete and submit an online final exam.

Prerequisites:  Individuals taking the course for academic credit must be enrolled in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and have completed 12 hours of plant science, economics or biology courses, or have the permission of the instructor.  Students taking the course for graduate credit must also be enrolled in UNL's Graduate School.
