  • Read general regulations and Ph.D. degree sections of the Graduate Studies Bulletin and the Agronomy & Horticulture Graduate Student Handbook and follow Ph.D. Degree Deadline Dates through completion of your degree.

  • Remove all admission deficiencies within the first two semesters.
     
  • With the aid of your advisor, select a supervisory committee of at least three other professors in addition to your advisor to serve as your examining committee. At least one member of your committee must be from outside the department. File the Appointment of Supervisory Committee for Doctoral Degree with the Office of Graduate Studies.

  • Prepare Program of Studies

  • Complete Annual Progress Report – Information will be sent out early each spring semester.

    Complete Seminar Requirements (Plant Pathology students must take at least one class)
    a. Agro 993 Seminar Presentation & Evaluation
    b. Agro 992 or Hort 950 – General Seminar

  • Complete Written & Oral Comprehensive Examinations – Complete and submit the Comprehensive Exam Form with signatures and grades to Graduate Chair, along with graded written examinations.

  • File Application for Candidacy for Doctoral Degree . This form is due no later than 7 months prior to the final oral examination. This form is filed when the research tools have been completed and the comprehensive exams are passed.

  • Follow Guidebook for Preparing Thesis or Dissertation .

  • Application For Degree . If this form is not filed, a diploma will not be ordered and graduation will be delayed. Upon receipt of this form you will be given final procedures to complete your graduation requirements.

  • Schedule time and location for Final Oral Exam (thesis defense). File Application for Final Oral Examination or Waiver . This is due 3 weeks prior to the date of the final oral examination (defense).

  • Final Oral Exam (defense)

  • Departmental Survey Of Graduates (submit to graduate secretary)

  • Contact Department Head’s secretary at 472-1555 or cwendt@unlnotes.unl.edu to set up exit interview with Head (Plant Pathology students should also contact their department).

  • Present bound & electronic copy of your thesis to the Department Head.

  • Return UNL keys and get your refund at the Key Shop, 942 North 22nd Street, Telephone: 472-8083

  • Attend Commencement exercises and celebrate your accomplishments!
